About our concrete contractor company in El Paso

Concrete driveway made of large rectangular slabs separated by grass strips, leading to a modern home with a parked car.

Why I started pouring concrete in El Paso

I framed houses for years before I switched to concrete, mostly because I got tired of building walls on slabs that weren't right. I learned the trade working under a finisher here in El Paso, and in 2013 I started Formcraft El Paso Concrete Company. Most of our calls come from homeowners who want a driveway, patio or slab. Builders and business owners call us too, for lots, footings or cutting.

What I care about most is the part you won't see once it's done, the base and the joints, because that decides how a slab holds up. El Paso makes that matter. Normal June highs run near 97°F, so we plan pours around the heat, because a top that dries too fast ends up weak and dusty. Most of our under 9 inches of yearly rain comes July through September, and a slab that falls toward the house gets found out fast. I'd rather lose a job than promise you a slab with no cracks at all.

What you get when we pour your concrete

These are the things you'll notice from the first visit to the day you walk on the new slab. They come from how I learned this trade and what I've seen fail.

  • Straight answers from the owner

I come out, look at the job and write the estimate myself, so you hear what could go wrong and what it'll take to head it off before anything gets poured. Our own crew does the work, and I'm on site for the pour.

  • Ground work done before the pour

We dig out and pack the subgrade, the soil your slab sits on, instead of raking it level, because a loose base settles and takes the concrete with it. We also check where your water runs and plan control joints, cuts that give the slab a straight place to crack instead of anywhere it likes.

  • A slab the next trade can build on

I framed houses before I poured concrete, so I know what the framer or flooring crew needs from the slab under them. We build with them in mind, so the people after us aren't fixing our mistakes on your house.

  • Permits handled on both sides of the line

When your job needs a permit, we deal with whichever office covers your address, whether that's a city, the county or the state in New Mexico. That way you aren't the one chasing paperwork between offices in Texas and New Mexico.

Licensing and insurance for our concrete work

  • Licensed and fully insured.

Licensed and fully insured. That covers our crew and your property while we're working at your house, and you're welcome to ask about it at the estimate.

  • City registration for residential work

Inside El Paso city limits, general contractors register with the city before taking on listed residential work, which includes foundations and grading. The city asks for a general liability insurance certificate naming the city and a $50,000.00 blanket building construction bond as part of that registration.
